What it is
On the 4-day private tours we split the desert in two: one night in the camp inside the dunes, one in a riad at their edge. Riad Madu is a family-run house of earth and wood with a courtyard, a terrace over the sand and, in the season, a pool — twenty metres from the first dune. It gives you a real bathroom, a long shower, a slow breakfast, and a base for the 4x4 morning around the erg (Khamlia, the nomad families, the fossil beds) that the 4-day itineraries add.

To be honest
- Simple, not designed: the charm is the location and the family, not the décor. The pool is seasonal; Wi-Fi works in the courtyard and drops in the rooms.
- Sunset from the terrace is nearly as good as from the dune, with a chair.
- The riad can arrange a hammam evening.
- Cash for extras; card.
